Laura Dean is a researcher at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine specialising in health systems capacity strengthening in low- and middle-income countries and disabilities caused by neglected tropical diseases. Imelda Bates established the Centre for Capacity Research at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, which is at the forefront of research into how to design, measure and evaluate programmes to strengthen research capacity and laboratory systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Prof Bate’s current research activities focus on anaemia and blood transfusion systems in LMICs, particularly on evidence to improve the supply and use of blood for transfusion. https://www.lstmed.ac.uk/research/centres-and-units/centre-for-capacity-research
