Contributor Biography

Heba Shaaban is a senior at Macaulay Honors CUNY- Hunter College, where is she pursuing a bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences and anthropology. Her current interests include metagenomics and higher education curriculum development. She was awarded a $30,000 scholarship sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History for her research on functional genomics in order to pursue her undergraduate studies and research. She is passionate about making professional scientific and academic opportunities equitable and accessible to underrepresented students. She aspires to attain an MD-PhD degree in the near future. David Westfall is a third-year medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he does metagenomics research in the Mason lab. He is a co-founder of Future of Care, an annual medical technology conference, and Pixorize, an online image annotation platform inspired by medical education. He believes that technological innovation can solve problems at the clinical level, and he hopes to work at this intersection to help improve patient outcomes.
