Contributor Biography

Etienne Joly grew up and went to university in Paris, where he studied biology, immunology, genetics and biophysics in parallel to his medical degree. He then trained as a postdoc successively in San Diego, London and Cambridge (UK) before moving to Toulouse after being recruited as a research scientist by INSERM. Over the years, he has been interested in a wide variety of scientific subjects, including the biology of MHC class I molecules, neuro-immuno-genetics, membrane biophysics, evolution, with a particular interest in speciation. For many years, he has been a fervent advocate of the evolution of scientific publishing towards open access, and has eagerly contributed as editorial board member to publishing platforms with innovative approaches such as PLOS One, Biology Direct or F1000Prime and F1000Research.
