Contributor Biography
Dr. Riaño-Pachón has a bachelor in Biology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2001), a Doctorate in Plant Molecular Biology from the Universitaet Potsdam (2008) and a Postdoc in Bioinformatics from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology (2010), both in Germany. Since January 2017 he is a research fellow at the Department of Biochemistry in the Institute of Chemistry at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Before that, between 2012 and 2016, he lead research group in Bioinformatics at the Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory in the city of Campinas. Between 2010 and 2012 Dr. Riaño-Pachón was the leader of the research group "Computational and Evolutionary Biology" at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, while serving as Assistant Professor in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics. His areas of expertise are biology, bioinformatics and computational, systems and evolutionary biology. Jason Rafe Miller is an Assistant Professor in the Informatics Department at the J. Craig Venter Institute (USA). He has contributed to the Celera Assembler family of genome assembly software programs (CA, CAbog, AlpaCA, and CAnu) and to the sequencing of several animal and plant genomes.
