Announcing our new Elasmobranch Article Collection

blog-pic_shark

It’s Shark Week and to help raise awareness of the importance of elasmobranchs we have launched our open science article collection on Elasmobranch Biology & Conservation, a platform for scholarly articles on sharks, skates and rays (and chimaeras).

The Guest Editors of the collection are David Shiffman (University of Miami) and Charles Bangley (East Carolina University).

The collection is open for submissions of articles in all areas of elasmobranch biology, conservation and policy. The initial set of articles published as part of the launch cover a wide range of elasmobranch research including:

–          An overview of open data resources available for chondrichthyan fishes

–          Longer than expected life spans in two North Atlantic shark species

–          Unexpected late-spring presence of spiny dogfish off North Carolina

–          A 61-year historical analysis of shark fishery in Peru

For the rest of 2014 a publication discount of 20% will be applied to all articles within the collection (those focused on science communication, education and policy are free). In addition to traditional article types, this collection welcomes non-traditional article types as well, including observations of rare but potentially ecologically meaningful events, null results, software papers and data notes.

If you would like your article to be a part of this collection email us with a brief outline of your proposed article or submit directly online.
