If you’re a fan of sex and dirt (and who isn’t, these days?), and happen to be within striking distance of the Euston Road tomorrow evening, check out this free event at the Wellcome Collection, The thing is…Lister’s legacy, 15 June 2011, 19.00 – 20.00.
This is a discussion with “Quentin Cooper, Hugh Pennington and a dirty secret”–the secret being a mystery object that will be revealed on the night.
And advance notice: for the ‘sex’ part, Quentin Cooper will be joining Lesley Hall, historian of gender and sexuality, on 20th July to “explore the context and consequences of the Contagious Diseases Act 1864, which aimed to protect servicemen from women infected with venereal disease.”
