Reaching out with art

Via the University of Lincoln research office blog, I came across a report from a study tour of the Wellcome Trust. The Trust is well known for its prestigious (and generous) awards—programme grants, project grants, and various fellowships—in biomedical research, giving over £600 million annually, but it also has quite an extensive interest in the humanities—at least where they touch on science and medicine.

The Arts Awards are set up to

  • stimulate interest, excitement and debate about biomedical science through the arts
  • examine the social, cultural, and ethical impact of biomedical science
    support formal and informal learning
  • encourage new ways of thinking
  • encourage high quality interdisciplinary practice and collaborative partnerships in arts, science and/or education practice.

They’ve put together a video with highlights from recent projects, which gives a fascinating glimpse into the wider mission of the Trust:
