Don't worry, be happy

something fishy

Lepidocephalichthys zeppelini

You might remember I wrote about Nando Boero, who named a jellyfish after Frank Zappa. Turns out that there’s a freshwater fish named after Led Zeppelin, Lepidocephalichthys zeppelini.

Apparently, the fish’s pectoral fin reminded Auburn University graduate student Justin Havird of Jimmy Page’s double-necked axe.

I can’t quite see it myself.

Anyway, this led to a bit of silliness at F1000, thinking of fishy band names, such as Pink Flounder and Jefferson Starfish. I’m sure you can do better.

While we’re on the subject of music, this video (H/T Grrlscientist) featuring Bobby McFerrin demonstrating the innateness (at least to Western ears) of the pentatonic scale is pretty amazing, even to a stone-deaf troll like myself.

Enjoy!

That really is tremendously cool. I’d love to hear some more in-depth discussion (there must have been some?).
