Plan S and cOAlition

F1000 group welcomes the important announcement “‘Plan S’ and ‘cOAlition S’

We have been some of the initiators of the Open Access approach to publishing research, and have been concerned by the limited adoption of full Open Access by publishers and the appearance of “hybrid OA”. This forceful and imaginative announcement may, we very much hope, bring the necessary clarity to currently somewhat confused Open Access practices.

We are completely committed to full Open Access in the growing project we are conducting, offering a new way for researchers to publish their findings directly, without delay, followed by post publication transparent peer review.

We believe that it is now possible and desirable to bypass the traditional scheme of publishing in journals, with the associated problems of delay, non-transparent selection, and high costs to the research community. The central publishing platform, Open Research Central will comply and support ‘Plan S’ fully.
