We are almost there!

Sorry for the long silence since my last post – we’ve been busy getting everything ready!  We’re in fact almost there now and will be publishing our first articles in the next few days.  As we announced back in January, we expect to publish a small number of articles over the coming months so that we can fully test the publishing model and tweak it as necessary before more formally launching towards the end of the year.

In the meantime, here are a few updates ahead of these first articles:

  • We now have an Editorial Board of more than 1000 international experts across biology and medicine, which we will be revealing shortly. We have received an extraordinary level of support from these Board members and we are encouraged by their enthusiasm for F1000 Research and the new publishing model that we have proposed.
  • Following extensive discussions with our Advisory Panel and with the major indexers, we have finalised our novel approach to article citation, which will handle the complexities of citing an article that will be in an evolving state of refereeing over time.  All will be revealed with the first articles!
  • We have agreed with many of the major indexers that articles will be indexed at the point at which they have received two or more positive reviews.  If an article fails to achieve this, it will not be indexed. If an article receives only negative reviews, it  will not (and cannot) be “unpublished” but, when we have the full platform up and running towards the end of the year, such articles will be removed from the default search on the site.
  • We have published our policy clarifying how we plan to deal with retractions, removals, replacements and withdrawal of articles.
  • Most importantly, we have finalised our author guidelines.

All author fees are waived for the rest of 2012 so now is a great time to send in your articles for rapid, hassle-free publication; just e-mail them to research@f1000.com.
