Looming budget cuts are set to wipe out whole research groups at the Natural History Museum, but a concerted effort from the community may yet save them.

    If you visit the Department of Palaeontology you’ll see a large display board in the entrance lobby detailing a major new project to build an ancient DNA lab in the Department. Staff believe this is still going to go ahead as the Director has confirmed that the cuts will have no impact on capital projects.

    The leader of the project is the Head of Palaeontology, Norm MacLeod so you have to wonder if Micropalaeontology is being sacrificed for this new initiative. The lab will certainly need several staff to run it.
