We’re delighted by news that David Nutt, Edmond J. Safra Professor of neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, and Section Head in Psychiatry for F1000Prime, has been elected president of the European Brain Council (EBC).
Founded in Brussels in 2002, the European Brain Council is a coordinating body that represents researchers in neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, basic brain research, patient groups and companies in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, as well as advising the European Commission and Parliament, as well as national governments, in the areas of policy and funding.
Those who know of Professor Nutt’s work will no doubt consider him a natural choice for the position of President, given his long track record of defending scientific advice and evidence-based policy making. Last year we reported on his acceptance of the John Maddox Prize for Standing up for Science; we are sure that those same values that earned him that distinction will ensure that the EBC is in safe hands.
A press release and interview with Professor Nutt can be read on the Imperial College website.
