We would like to congratulate Pascale Cossart, Faculty Member in the Microbiology Faculty, on being awarded the Balzan Prize for her work in cellular microbiology and infectious diseases.

She receives the award “for her seminal discoveries on the molecular biology of pathogenic bacteria and their interaction with host cells”. Her work on Listeria, among other pathogens, is credited for providing “very significant insights into the mechanisms underlying infectious diseases and how they might be combatted”.

The International Balzan Prize Foundation awards four prizes every year in literature, moral sciences and the arts in addition to the physical, mathematical and natural sciences and medicine. Prize-winners then share half of their winnings to fund future projects in their field.
