Milestones: 100,000 articles, 130,000 recommendations!

A double hit of exciting news: we’ve not only broken the 100,000-article barrier on F1000 Prime, but we’ve also published 130,000 recommendations!

100,000 articles, 130,000 recommendations

The 100,000th article was selected by Irini Sereti and Stig Jensen (amongst others) and was given a total rating of 9 stars, with an average of 2.5 stars. The study examined HIV-infected T cells in the lymph nodes of humanized mice, finding that HIV-infected T cells are motile, which results in their own distribution throughout the lymph node cortex.

Sereti and Jensen said,

The paper elegantly demonstrates the dramatic phenotypic changes of infected cells and their altered motility, highlighting potential targets for early interventions that aim to prevent viral dissemination.

The 130,000th recommendation was highlighted by Don Sin, with a 7-star total rating. The article is major step towards understanding how cigarette smoke causes both emphysema and pulmonary hypertension, and suggests that inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) may be of therapeutic value. Don Sin said of the article,

Inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase … [could] ‘reverse’ emphysema and pulmonary vessel remodelling related to smoking.

Many thanks for our Faculty for helping us achieve these targets! We’re off to have a slice of celebratory cake…
