We are very sad to note the passing of Professor Maurice Sabelis, Ecology Faculty Member from 2004. Dr Sabelis was a professor at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) at the
University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. He passed away on 7th January this year, after a two-year illness. IBED reports that he was “scientifically active until the last moment”.

Sabelis was awarded the Academy Professor Prize in 2006 by the Netherlands Royal Academy of Sciences because of his important contributions to science. His research spanned the areas of population biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, epidemiology, biological control, acarology and behavioural ecology.
