Dame Kay Davies wins WISE Lifetime Achievement Award

Dame Kay DaviesWe are thrilled to congratulate Dame Kay Davies, F1000 International Advisory Board member, on being awarded the 2014 WISE Lifetime Achievement Award. WISE Awards celebrate female talent in science, technology and engineering, and recognise the efforts of advisors, employers and other organisations to encourage and support women in STEM careers. This is the 30th year of the WISE Campaign.

Dame Kay is the Dr Lee’s Professor of Anatomy, University of Oxford and Deputy Chair of the Wellcome Trust. Her research examines the molecular analysis of neuromuscular and neurological disease, particularly Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy. She was responsible for the development of a test now used worldwide to screen women at high risk of having a child with the disease. The WISE lifetime achievement award celebrates Dame Kay’s outstanding career in science that has inspired and supported other women to follow in her footsteps. The award was presented at the award’s ceremony last week by HRH the Princess Royal, the patron of WISE.
