In this blog, Santi Rahmawati, Founder and Global Network Director at the Research Synergy Foundation (RSF), discusses her motivation behind partnering with F1000Research to launch the Research Synergy Foundation gateway and describes how it offers a sustainable way for the RSF researchers to ensure rapid, open access publication of their research, whilst ensuring that it is shared with the world for all to see.
Many researchers worldwide have limited access to opportunities, knowledge sharing mediums, and technology. They may also have limited access to literature which can significantly impede their scientific writing abilities. This, coupled with the many hurdles of getting their work published due to editorial bias for example, has undoubtedly ended many a promising career in science and discouraged unquantifiable others from ever pursuing it in the first place.
Here at the RSF, we simply won’t let that to continue to happen. Our vision is to be a world class organisation that encourages the acceleration of knowledge sharing in developing countries and we achieve this by developing open research collaborative networks among scholars, researchers, lecturers and practitioners globally to for the realisation of an equal quality of knowledge acceleration. Our integrated research ecosystem prepares academics to contribute to the scholarly community and society through six main works and programs that are designed to help authors/ members to really refine and enhance their manuscripts to enable successful publication.
Empowering researchers through open science
Today, I’m thrilled to announce that our works and programs will be complemented with our newly launched publishing gateway on F1000Research. The dedicated RSF gateway puts our researchers front and centre of the publication process, by enabling authors, not editors, to decide what they wish to publish and when and offers a sustainable way to ensure rapid, open access publication of their research for all the world to see. By submitting their research to the RSF gateway, our authors will be formally recognized as part of our global research ecosystem.
F1000Research’s philosophy of openness, transparency, and reproducibility embodies the true cornerstone of science as we see it and that of our own vision and mission. The growing open science movement that these values are at the heart of, can reduce the knowledge gap among countries and make the knowledge move forward at a rapid pace. By opening the research, the data’s accuracy, the replication or extension, and the future research opportunity is becoming an increasingly attractive and incontestable proposition. Research is one of the pivot bases of the innovation that creates values in our lives as a society, even a nation. The RSF gateway on F1000Research provides an an equitable solution that makes all stakeholders involved in article publication gain advantages—the stakeholders, the authors, the reviewers, the editors, the publishers, and the readers.
A publishing model that accelerates research impact
The RSF gateway provides a platform where researchers, and practitioners can publish all of their research outputs, including original research articles, documents, posters, slides, and videos from across all research fields including Social Science, Economics, Business, Management, Humanities, Engineering, and Medical Studies.
Researchers will benefit from F1000Research’s pioneering open research publishing process:
- Fast – articles can be published within a week. Posters and slides published immediately.
- Inclusive – it is possible to publish a wide variety of research outputs: research articles, software, data sets, protocols, negative and confirmatory results, etc.
- Open – Fully open access so everyone can read the research.
- Transparent – open, author-led publishing and peer review encourages fairer process.
To be eligible for the submission to the Research Synergy Foundation gateway, articles must first have undergone the RSF’s publication preparation process via their International Conference, Workshops, or coaching services. You can find out more about this process here, or by contacting the RSF.
When an article is submitted to the gateway, the authors will be asked to ensure that their research data is available in a suitable repository and suggest appropriate peer reviewers for their article. The article will then undergo basic editorial checks to ensure it meets our editorial requirements and then be published online. Once published, it will undergo F1000Research’s innovative open peer review process.
