F1000Workspace Release Notes

Find out what we have in store for you over the coming months on F1000Workspace

New year, new resolutions, and here at F1000Workspace our resolution is to keep you updated on what great things are happening here at F1000Workspace.

In our first post of the year, I am happy to give you an update about a few new features and improvements that we just released and what we will be working on in the next 3-4 months. We hope that you have a great 2018 and stay tuned for more news. And, as always, let us know about what you like and don’t like, your feedback and suggestions are what makes F1000Workspace.

Abstract in the project view

This is a simple improvement, but one we hope that will make a big difference by helping you to quickly identify the articles that are most relevant to you. When you are looking at the list of references and an abstract is present, now you will be able to read it without having to navigate through to the article page.

In the list view just click on the word Abstract or in the table view in the blue top right corner of the title. We’ve had a few users saying that this would make a real difference to them, especially when doing literature reviews.

Offline

Having the PDFs from your reading list available offline is good, but much better is to have all your PDFs available all the time. And that is what we are working now to achieve, making all your references accessible and fully searchable offline, so you can always read the articles that you need, when you need them.

Exact sciences and social sciences

When we started F1000Workspace we were focused on life sciences, but from early on we gained users from a variety of fields, such as history, law, sociology, physics and arts, among others. Now, you can have articles suggestions based on the content of your project, in any area that you are interested. You just need to go to My account and set your field of study, if you haven’t done so already.

We have also started to support new reference styles including Legal case or Newspaper article, and we will be soon expanding it to include Presentations, Films, Maps, Broadcasts and Blogposts.

We will also improve the import of the reference details from your web browser. This will include bringing the abstracts from the major publishers when you import an article.

External API

This is quite a niche feature that allows you to re-use your data stored in F1000Workspace in lots of different ways. The API gives you access to your references, projects, notes and PDFs so you can re-use it and integrate with other tools that you already use, such as showing new articles and notes on a lab intranet homepage.

Check out our documentation here. Thanks Malcom for suggesting this feature. If you’d like to suggest a feature or provide us with any feedback please do not hesitate to get in touch by email or comment below.
