Here at F1000Prime we are grateful for the work of our Faculty; without them we wouldn’t exist. They provide recommendations for articles along with explanations for their choices, identifying key papers week in, week out.
Our Heads of Faculty work hard to ensure the scope of their Faculties and Sections truly reflect their fields and we are pleased to announce some new appointments.
The Faculty of Ecology will gain from the vast experience of Ove Hoegh-Guldberg of the University of Queensland and Georgina Mace of University College London (UCL), who was a Faculty Member in the Conservation & Restoration Ecology Section. The Faculty of Genomics & Genetics sees the appointments of Daniel Geschwind of UCLA, until now a Section Head for Neurogenetics, and Wolf Reik of The Babraham Institute who was a Faculty Member for Animal Genetics.
Faculty of Ecology

Ove Hoegh-Guldberg
Ove Hoegh-Guldberg is Director of the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland (UQ), and in this role works to engage external stakeholders and build links for the institute around global change in focal areas such as healthy oceans, renewable energy, sustainable water and food systems. As Professor of Marine Science at UQ, he also heads a large laboratory focused on the effects of global warming and ocean acidification on coral reefs, and is one of the most cited authors in ecology and climate change.

Georgina Mace
A Faculty Member in the Conservation & Restoration Ecology Section of the Ecology Faculty, Georgina Mace has been with us since November 2004. She is Professor of Biodiversity and Ecosystems and Head of the Centre for Biodiversity and Environment research at UCL. Her research measures biodiversity loss and ecosystem change, particularly identifying and characterising species at high risk of extinction.
Faculty of Genomics & Genetics

Daniel Geschwind
A Principal Investigator, Gordon Professor and director of the UCLA Center for Autism Research and Treatment, Daniel Geschwind’s research focuses on the mechanisms of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. He is an advocate for collaborative patient resources for data sharing and genetic research and a supporter of data and biomaterial sharing. He has been an F1000 Section Head for over a decade.

Wolf Reik
Wolf Reik heads the Epigenetics Programme at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, UK. His research looks at epigenetic reprogramming, transgenerational epigenetic inheritance, epigenetics of ageing, and epigenetic regulation of cell fate decisions. He is also interested in social behaviour in insects – with a view to understanding how DNA methylation in the brain is linked with the evolution of sociality, though this is currently more of a side project. He has been a Faculty Member since 2005.
We are pleased all have agreed to become a Head of Faculty, and welcome them on board!
