Getting your paper through the door!

In theory, after the time and effort expended to get an article ready and polished for publication, it should be the point where you see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, in reality that’s not typically the case. Despite feeling the weight off your shoulders, you still need your article to comply with the specific style required for your chosen destination and then be ready to wrestle with a potentially unwieldy editorial submission system. This final furlong can almost feel as tiring as writing the actual paper!

Here at F1000Research we have always wanted it to be a cinch to submit a final draft and have it arrive in our editorial system hassle free. To make this happen, we have a very simple and intuitive one-page submission form that throws no curve balls. It’s been designed in such a way that a submitting author can get their paper to us without any unnecessary stress.

We also want authors to be able to send their paper directly from where they are writing their article. We work with Overleaf to ensure potential authors have access to templates that match our style and when the author is ready to publish, they can do so via a click of a button. In fact, this has recently been streamlined further and we will be discussing how on the blog very soon so watch this space. We also have a similar one click mechanism in place with Authorea.

We have now gone a step further to make things even easier for our authors using the popular writing platform Microsoft Word. Via F1000Workspace, you can now submit an article directly to F1000Research from inside Microsoft Word. Through the Word Plugin, there is a one-click option that will automatically send the document to our submission form and pull in relevant authorship metadata. We are also busy working on making this feature available for our brand new Google Doc Add-on too.

Making this link between F1000Workspace and F1000Research provides a pain-free, easy publication workflow that spans collecting and managing references, writing and discussing a manuscript draft, to finally submitting it for publication. A one-stop shop for disseminating scientific research!

To celebrate this, we are offering a free publication for the first 10 articles for individuals that register for an F1000Workspace account (valid for the first year). So as a user, if Microsoft Word is your writing platform of choice, the new “submit to F1000Research” feature is a great opportunity to claim a free article!
