We’re sad to mark the death of Austin Hughes, who had been Faculty Member of the F1000 Immunology Faculty since 2003.

Hughes was Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina, and a week before his death on October 31^st, his department had just nominated him for the Governor’s Award for Scientific Excellence.

An obituary for Austin Hughes on his university’s website includes some of the student comments from his teaching evaluations, which make it clear that he was a talented educator as well as researcher. We extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, students, and colleagues.
