Many congratulations to Ecology Section Head David Karl, who recently a Balzan prize in Oceanography.

Prof. Karl is the Professor of Oceanography at the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, University of Hawaii, and Head of F1000’S Ecosystem Ecology Section. Karl won the Balzan Prize for fundamental contributions to the understanding of the role and importance of microorganisms in the ocean and how they control the ocean’s carbon, nitrogen and carbon cycles. His work has contributed greatly to insights into global change.
