Binding of a fluorescence reporter and a ligand to an odorant-binding protein of the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti [v2; ref status: indexed, https://f1000r.es/4yp ]
Gabriel M. Leal, Walter S. Leal
This study (and first author Gabriel Leal’s high school project!) looks at the binding of DEET to an odorant-protein of the yellow fever mosquito.
“If indeed mosquito OBPs have low affinity for DEET, it may explain, at least in part, the need to apply high doses of insect repellents” write the authors in their conclusion, noting that further research is still required.
