Today we launched a new design of part of our website, including the homepage and navigation menu. Please have a look, and let us know in the comments below what you think.
A few of the changes:
- Chinese-language homepage. If you’re accessing our website from China or other Chinese speaking countries, you will see site navigation and static text about the journal in either traditional or simplified Chinese.
- New logo. Our logo now includes the words “Open for Science”.
- Four key points. At various points throughout the site, but most notably on the homepage, you will see that we have emphasized four key points.
- Immediate Publication
- Transparent Refereeing
- No Editorial Bias
- Data Included
- Videos. To illustrate each of the four points above we have also produced four short videos, with the help of several researchers. You can find all videos on our homepage, as well as on our YouTube channel. Thanks to Suzanne Scarlata, Gregory Petsko, Bruce Cronstein, Vitaly Citovsky, Javier Monzon, and Daniel F. Roses for finding the time to visit our New York office to share their thoughts on publishing – on camera!
- Shorter list of subject areas. Don’t worry, we still publish articles in the same fields as we did before, but we have consolidated our previous forty sections into a more reasonable eighteen. Cross-disciplinary articles can, as before, fit into more than one subject area.
- Featured content on homepage. We already had a featured article section, but now we also feature collections and blog posts on the homepage.
- “How it works” page. With a nice new diagram illustrating our publishing model.
- Peer review tips page. We will discuss this in more detail in a future blog post, but do have a look for a collection of tips for (new) peer reviewers, and examples of referee reports.
We’ve made a few other, mostly navigational, changes elsewhere on the site. Note for example that our Advisory Board is now under “about” in the dropdown menu, and the link to other F1000 products can be found by clicking “F1000.com” at the top right.
If you have any questions about anything on the new (English or Chinese) website, please leave a comment below.
