Recap of #F1000Talks – Shark Week: Elasmobranch Biology & Conservation

To launch F1000Research’s new Elasmobranch Biology & Conservation Article Collection, our Outreach Director for the Americas, César Berríos-Otero, hosted a Google Hangout with David Shiffman (@WhySharksMatter), Vicky Vasquez (@VickyV_TeamORF) and Christie Wilcox (@NerdyChristie) in order to talk elasmobranchs, conservation, Sharknado, Shark Week and more.

The talk was streamed live on August 7th, but if you missed it, here’s a chance to catch up on the conversation:

Dissatisfied with Discovery’s portrayal of sharks during Shark Week, scientists are using the opportunity to celebrate the awesomeness of sharks, and raise awareness of elasmobranch’s essential role as marine apex predators and key models in biomedical research. We hope our Elasmobranch Biology & Conservation Article Collection will be a useful tool in collecting new papers important for conservation efforts. We are still welcoming submissions for this collection, so get in touch if you would like to submit – there is a 20% discount on APCs for papers in this collection through 2014.
