Colonoscopic polyp detection rate is stable throughout the workday including evening colonoscopy sessions [v1; ref status: indexed, https://f1000r.es/3cf]

Colonoscopy is an important screening and surveillance tool that can be used to detect pre-malignant lesions such as polyps and adenomas. Due to increasing demands for this procedure and patient convenience, evening screening sessions have been introduced in some hospitals. A number of studies have reported that polyp detection rates decrease during the working day due to endoscopist fatigue.

To understand whether evening colonoscopies are as efficient as morning colonoscopies at detecting polyps, Ian Beales and colleagues analysed endoscopy session data obtained from more than 2000 colonoscopies. Interestingly, they discovered that the quality of colonoscopy was not affected by when the procedure was performed.
