The Royal Society Fellowship is made up of eminent scientists, engineers and technologists from the UK and the Commonwealth. Past Fellows have included Newton, Darwin and Einstein. Today, the Royal Society has announced their new Fellows, among which are four F1000Prime members, whom we would like to heartily congratulate:

Philippe Sansonetti, Head of Faculty for Microbiology
- Philippe Sansonetti – Microbiology Head of Faculty
- Sheena Radford – Chemical Biology Section Head
- Peter Colman – Structural Biology Faculty Member
- Peter Keightley – Genomics & Genetics Faculty Member
Some interesting stats provided by the Royal Society reveal that seven of the 50 (14%) of this year’s intake of Fellows are women, with 11 new Fellows from Cambridge, 7 from Oxford and 5 from London.
Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society, said:
“Science helps us to better understand ourselves and the natural world on which we depend. Building scientific knowledge helps us face some of the planet’s biggest challenges such as food shortages, climate change and tackling disease. These scientists who have been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society have already contributed much to the scientific endeavour, whether that is in academia, industry or government.”
The full list of new Fellows and Foreign Members can be found here. Many congrats again to our Faculty who have been honoured with Royal Society Fellowship.
