The F1000 Community Meet Up in Houston – a story in pictures

The latest F1000 Community Meet Up went down in style at the Texas Medical Center’s Trevisio restaurant in Houston, Texas. On the evening of February 26, a lively group of scientists gathered to meet and chat on issues surrounding science and publishing.

As the night started out, popular topics of conversation included different peer-review models, the difficulties in keeping up with literature, and everyone’s research interests. Some guests were very successful at the game Taboo as well. Katrien Van Roosbroeck from Belgium collected six name tags (see picture below), while she lost her own to a fellow scientist at her table.

A short presentation by me explained how Faculty of 1000 strives to address problems with scholarly communication through the different services we offer.

Guests were armed with questions about F1000, and glad to learn that, as usual for all our Meet Ups, they would receive complimentary three-month access to F1000Prime. Stimulating discussion followed about where guests saw the biggest difficulties in scientific publication.

Before the night drew to a close, we announced the winners of the raffle and Taboo. It was great to meet like-minded scientists from the Houston area. We’re looking forward to a return trip in the future.
