Mark your calendars – Announcing the #F1000Talks Tweet Chat

F1000Tips_Tweetchat_300x250_v1Literature discovery tools and services are gaining in popularity among scientists. A principal consideration when choosing one of these services is how much help they can provide scientists and doctors in their work, while ease of use and user support should also be taken into consideration.

Join us on Wednesday, January 29th at 1pm ET (6pm GMT) for a live chat on Twitter about using various literature discovery and management tools like F1000Prime, Mendeley, Papers and PubMed. Our special guests for the #F1000Talks tweet chat will be F1000 Specialists Sylvia Samaniego (Stony Brook University) and Megha Rajaram (National Cancer Institute). We invite everyone from scientists to nurses to librarians to participate with their tips and suggestions of using these tools. This will be an event to open up dialog between the wider biomedical communities so we can share our ideas.

If you’ve never participated in a tweet chat before, here’s a brief overview:

What’s a tweet chat?

A tweet chat is a discussion that takes place on Twitter using a specific hash tag (in this case #F1000Talks). The hash tag allows the conversation to be easily followed. You don’t need an account to view the #F1000Talks discussion, but you will need one to participate. For an account, you can sign up here.

How to participate?

We will host the conversation from our @F1000Tips Twitter account. It will be hosted by me (Kinga Hosszu, Outreach Director, @KingaNYC) and moderated by Cindy Chen, Associate Director (@cchen7). Our special guests, Sylvia Samaniego (@joss926) and Megha Rajaram (@MegGenomics) will help guide the conversation. In the end, however, it’s up to you, the participants, which direction the chat goes. The format will be the following: in the first 10 minutes our special guests will answer some of my questions. For the remainder of the time, we will open the conversation to all of our participants to ask questions and share experiences and advice.

Some advice:
– Don’t worry if you join a little late, or need to leave early – you can participate at your own convenience.

– Use the hash tag #F1000talks in all of your tweets to tie the conversation into a common chat stream

– Retweet your favorite comments and follow people you connect with. We recommend following:
@F1000Tips
@joss926 (Guest)
@MegGenomics (Guest)

– It’s OK to express different opinions, but please be respectful of others

– Most importantly, have fun!
