Cartilage biology and open peer review

Ali Mobasheri is a research scientist in the field of cartilage biology, and works at the University of Nottingham as well as the School of Pharmacy at the University of Bradford. Professor Mobasheri is also a Faculty Member in the Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology Faculty of F1000Prime.

During a recent visit to our London office, Professor Mobasheri gave us a video interview in which he describes his research in the rather niche area of chondrocyte ion channels and membrane proteins. Professor Mobasheri’s group believe that these under-studied proteins may be the drug targets and biomarkers of the future for widespread conditions such as arthritis.

As well as recommending articles in his capacity as an F1000Prime Faculty Member, Professor Mobasheri is a keen supporter of open access research, and has published the article “Curcumin reduces prostaglandin E2, matrix metalloproteinase-3 and proteoglycan release in the secretome of interleukin 1β-treated articular cartilage” with F1000Research. For more details on the article, and an interview with Professor Mobasheri on the subject of open peer review, head over to the post on the F1000Research blog.
