F1000 back from Heidelberg – thanks for attending

Last Thursday 28th November, Eva Amsen (Outreach Director, F1000Research) and I visited the beautiful city of Heidelberg, Germany to connect with researchers, F1000 Specialists and Faculty in the local area.

We first headed to DKFZ to support F1000 Specialist and post-doctoral drosophilist Jerome Korzelius with his talk on F1000Prime and how it helps him keep up-to-date with the literature. Jerome introduced F1000Prime to his institute and gave an excellent overview of the service, even giving a live demonstration of his SmartSearches and how they alert him to the latest papers in his field. Following Jerome’s talk, an open discussion ensued about the ethos behind F1000Prime. Questions such as ‘what does F1000Prime cover?’, ‘can I become an Associate Faculty Member’ and ‘how do I get access to F1000Prime’ were asked. Over light refreshments and – of course – pretzels (a local delicacy), our conversations continued with many enthused researchers wanting to know of other services from Faculty of 1000.

Later that evening and together with researchers from EMBL and the University of Heidelberg, we hosted an F1000 meet-up at Vetter’s Brauhaus in Heidelberg’s old town. The tables were full of researchers sharing sauerkraut, Roggenmischbrot and bratwursts washed down with an in-house brewed beer.

This event was a great opportunity to connect Heidelberg’s researchers with F1000, whilst also providing them an opportunity to meet and network with peers from outside their institute. An enjoyable evening was had by all with many enquires about how to access F1000Prime, become an F1000 Specialist and publish in F1000Research.

Thank you to all who attended Jerome’s talk and the meet-up; we hope you found it useful and informative, and we look forward to discussing Faculty of 1000 with you again soon.
