F1000Journal Clubs public beta release

The latest update to F1000Prime makes the beta version of a major new feature, F1000Journal Clubs, available to all subscribers. This is the beginning of a significant expansion to the features of F1000Prime, which aims to make science communication more efficient and integrated with the workflow of life science researchers and clinicians.

F1000Journal Clubs is an online tool to help scientists create, organize, manage and share the conclusions of their journal clubs. The first step of a journal club meeting is choosing a suitable article, and the database of nearly 150,000 article recommendations, plus the ability to search PubMed via the interface, means that the presenter of any meeting can create a shortlist of suitable articles easily.

F1000Journal Clubs features include:

•    Online meeting scheduler
•    Integration with F1000Prime and PubMed to find, and recommend to you, suitable articles
•    Article short-listing and journal club member voting
•    PDF figure extractor to assist in creating presentations
•    Audiovisual resource uploading tools
•    Journal club report writing and commenting tools

We’re aiming for the interface to be as intuitive as possible so the best way to find out more is to try creating your own journal club, and then follow the on-screen tips if you need more information.

All registered users at subscribing institutes, Faculty Members and personal subscribers can now create and manage F1000Journal Clubs. Anyone without a subscription to F1000Prime who is invited to join an F1000Journal Club will receive one month’s free access.

JC_feedbackMany people who use F1000Prime are also involved in academic journal clubs, so we encourage you to test it out, and tell us what you think. Please contact us using the orange feedback button to provide feedback and feature requests, or if you identify any problems with this beta version, which will be further enhanced in 2014.
