Edward Hayes

It is with sadness that we note the death of Professor Edward Hayes, former Faculty Member in Infectious Diseases, who passed away last month.

Professor Hayes was the Head of the Department of Public Health at the Barcelona Centre for International Health Research (CRESIB), and joined F1000Prime in November 2005 as a member of the Viral Infections (without HIV) section.

Before joining CRESIB in 2008, Professor Hayes had worked for 20 years at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US. Professor Hayes’ work at CDC involved visiting the sites of many infectious disease outbreaks, including dengue fever, malaria and plague. After leaving CDC, Professor Hayes moved to Spain to become an expert advisor for public health services on vector-borne diseases.

An obituary for Professor Hayes has been published by CRESIB, and can be read here.

Our thoughts go out to his family and colleagues.
