Can gaming technology help speed up medical research?

The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) has a plan to speed up the time it takes to go from medical research to drug treatment. But it comes from the most unlikely of places: gaming technology.

This fall, the MRF will host two, live online games called Breakthroughs to Cures aimed at stimulating ideas about how to get effective drugs to patients in need faster. Anyone can play, from university professors to healthcare innovators to biopharma executives.

The game involves a scenario where widespread contamination has caused nearly 100 million people to suffer from a neurological disorder. Players will engage in idea-sharing on how to cure this devastating disease via conversation threads where cards are played either in support or against another player’s idea. In the end, the MRF is hoping the game will produce a wide range of new strategies for speeding up medical research.

The two gaming events will be held on October 7th and November 9th. To sign up and to get more info about Breakthroughs to Cures visit https://breakthroughstocures.org.
