Yesterday we launched F1000Workspace, the most significant update to the F1000 suite of services to date. It offers scientists a comprehensive suite of software and services to write and collaborate on papers, annotate and share references and articles, as well as easily discover and save relevant new articles. Even better, it allows you to access your references and notes from any internet-ready computer or laptop.
All current F1000 subscribers will have full access to the new F1000Workspace, including the reference management and annotation tools, and a powerful plugin for Microsoft Word. The new browser plugin allows you to easily save and annotate references as you browse while the Word plugin gives you fast access to your library of references as you write. You can even search PubMed, view F1000Prime recommended articles and get smart citation suggestions all without leaving Word.
Over the past months, (Associate) Faculty Members, F1000 Specialists and F1000 subscribers have been helping us test a beta version of the platform (thank you!), and their feedback has been very encouraging. Here’s what a few of them said.
- “The platform elegantly integrates my web-based research and publication needs, without the bloat and excess of existing reference managers. I am recommending the platform to all my scientific colleagues.”
~ Richard Cho – Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- “I find the browser plug-in really useful so that with one click, I can add any article that I read to my database. The red ‘F’ button acts a good reminder to add any article that I read. I will no longer have to add them months later when I’m writing a paper.”
~ Fiona Russell, PhD, Postgraduate Research Associate – Kings College London
We are very proud of the F1000Workspace platform but would love to get your thoughts on it, so please go and test it for yourself. Have a play around, set up a project, collect some references, annotate some articles, search PubMed from within Word, and invite co-authors to discuss and interact! As always, we’re happy to answer any questions so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
